Pippi of today - a campaign for girls on the move

The first book about Pippi was released in 1945, right after the end of World War II with millions of children affected. Today 68,5 million people are forcibly displaced – more than during World War II. More than half of the world’s’ refugees are children. Girls are especially vulnerable in refugee situations. Girls on the move, Refugee girls are the Pippi of today. Every girl that is on the move is strong. And each of them deserves the chance to take charge of their own story. By joining forces with the strongest, most famous girl in the world they can be empowered to do it. The campaign will support the Pippi of today and Save the Children’s work for “Girls on the Move”. Girls on the move supports girls that have been through trauma – enabling them to gain confidence, creating possibilities to share their stories and providing opportunities to change their lives. To go from the past, to the now and to own their future.

Pippi Longstocking is a character created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. According to her tales, Pippi is the daughter of a pirate, lives alone and is famously the strongest girl in the world. She lives in Villa Villekulla together with her pet monkey Mr. Nilsson, and her horse, named horse, who resides on her porch.
